Item Search for Higgs boson decays to a pair of new scalars in the 4 b-quark final state using 2018 data collected by CMS at the LHC.(2023-12) McMaster, Brooks C., 1992-; Brinkerhoff, Andrew. The discovery of the Higgs boson in 2012 by the ATLAS and CMS experiments at the CERN Large Hadron Collider (LHC) was a revolutionary display of predictive power for the Standard Model of particle physics. However, the continued existence of unsolved questions under the model, as well as new measurements that may be in tension with it, lead physicists to continue to search for new physics and particles beyond the Standard Model. Here, an analysis of CMS proton-proton collision data collected in 2018 at a center-of-mass energy of 13 TeV with an integrated luminosity of 59.8 fb−1 is presented. The purpose of this analysis is to search for the production of a candidate for a predicted pseudoscalar ‘a’ boson at a 20 GeV mass from the decay of highly boosted Higgs bosons, identified by the boosted cluster of 4 b and ¯b jets that a H → aa decay might produce. A neural network is developed and trained to identify events that match this production in simulation, and an upper limit of 22% is set on the H → aa → 4b decay branching fraction at this mass point.
