Abstract

My research explores some of the lesser-known aspects from the well-known narrative of how Jackie Robinson and other black baseball players broke baseball's color line.  This thesis tells that story, not from the perspective of Jackie Robinson or the owners of Major League Baseball teams but, from the perspective of the owners of Negro League Baseball teams.  My research focuses on records from league meetings throughout the 1940s and 1950s and weaves in historical narrative and biographical information about the men and women who built one of the largest and most profitable black institutions in America—the Negro leagues.
