Alzheimer’s Disease and acquired epilepsy are neurodegenerative diseases that cause a major decrease in the quality-of-life. Identifying neurobiological pathways relevant to the development and progression of disease is very important. An increased amount of literature has shown involvement of neurodegenerative mechanisms in the pathophysiology of acquired epilepsies and Alzheimer’s. In this review, we will identify whether an overlap of neural mechanisms exist in Alzheimer’s Disease and acquired epilepsy. By understanding whether these diseases share neurobiological commonalities, future studies can potentially identify therapeutic targets to slow down disease progression and reduce cognitive symptoms of both disorders.en_US
